Make a cordless drill comparison before you buy a drill as a gift

I would like to give away a cordless drill/driver. Before buying the new device, I do a cordless drill/driver comparison to make sure that the recipient gets a drill/driver Bosch Professional that meets their needs. I looked at cordless power tool combo kits and realized that one of the main differences in cordless drills is the battery. I decided that the first part of my cordless drill comparison would be to take a look at what makes a Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery different from a Nicad battery.

For this cordless screwdriver comparison, I decided that the chemical properties are not important to me. The decisive factor was why a Li-Ion battery can be better than a NiCad battery. My drill comparison revealed 2 main reasons. The weight of lithium-ion batteries is about half that of a NiCad battery. In other words, if you hold an 18-volt lithium-ion cordless drill/driver overhead, you’ll notice a big difference in weight compared to an 18-volt Nicad drill/driver.

This cordless screwdriver comparison showed that lithium-ion batteries hold a charge much longer than a NiCad battery. A fully charged lithium-ion battery can hold a charge for up to a year. My cordless screwdriver comparison made it clear to me that when comparing cordless screwdrivers , it is important to compare cordless screwdrivers with similar performance. In terms of performance, a 12-volt Nicad battery has the same performance as a 12-volt lithium-ion battery and an 18-volt Nicad Battery has the same performance as an 18 volt Li-Ion battery. So don’t expect the same torque found in an 18 volt Nicad cordless screwdriver from a new 12 volt Li-Ion cordless screwdriver .

My drill comparison showed that many drills are now listed as drill drivers instead of just cordless drills. Cordless screwdrivers have a clutch. The clutch controls the amount of torque applied. When the preset resistance is reached , the drill driver’s drive shaft will disengage with a clicking sound. If you adjust the clutch properly, you won’t strip a bolt or strip it once it’s tight. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the clutch settings so that you can take advantage of the clutch and not strip the bolts. Part of my cordless screwdriver comparison is also to check the number of clutch adjustments on each drill driver.

My cordless screwdriver comparison also showed that most cordless drills have keyless chucks that are tightened by hand, no chuck key to loosen them . Keyless chucks are usually 3/8″ or 1/2″. This drill comparison also found that some consumer-level cordless drills have keyless chucks that only accept quick-disconnect bits. Since I’m buying the cordless screwdriver as a gift, I pay attention to what kind of bits the recipient uses.

I’ve come to the conclusion from this cordless drill comparison that the most important feature to consider is how the drill feels in your hand. Does the drill point straight ahead without tilting up or down? Is it too hard to work overhead? Since the drill I’m buying is a gift, I check the return policy before I buy, especially when buying online.

My cordless screwdriver comparison not only helped Einhell Bohrhammer me figure out which cordless drill to buy as a gift, but also to better understand my tool. I now know how and why to use the clutch settings and am now taking the time to set them properly.
