Cow urine or a Cure for Cancer?-Ayurvedic Aspect of Gomutra

Abstract

Cow urine has apparently a long history of therapeutic use in India. Using Cow urine or gomutra is a tradition in India and this tradition has been followed or practiced from more than 5000 years as per Ayurveda. Over a thousand years, several hindu believers have proposed that drinking virgin gomutra has divine effects or benefits. Having it early in the morning, on an empty stomach can actually cure a lot of ailments. In 2014, there was a group of people who attested that Gomutra has cured people who were suffering from diabetes, tumors, tuberculosis, stomach problems and even cancer.  In this article we will discuss the Ayurvedic Aspect of Gomutra along with its several benefits.

Ayurveda and Gomutra

Ayurveda not only explains herbo, herbo mineral drugs but it also explains certain other aspects. Our acharyas have mentioned animal ksheer (milk), mootra (urine), mansa (flesh), and even mala (excreta) of animals along with their properties and uses or benefits. See, what a vast science and from how long it’s in our traditions. Ayurveda explains ashta mootra that is eight types of mutra and that too of eight different animals along with their benefits and one of them is gomutra. Texts provides knowledge about mootra (urine) of  cow (go), mahisha (buffalo), avi (sheep), Ajja mutra (goat), ashwa (horse), ushtra (camel), hasti (elephant) and khara (ass). It is mentioned in Charaka samhita sutrasthana chapter one verse 93, in sushruta, ashtanga hariya and in many oher samhitas.

Now let’s discuss properties of cow’s urine which are exclusively mentioned in Ayurveda.

Properties of Cow’s urine according to various acharyas

As mentioned earlier, ashta mutra are being explained in Ayurveda texts . So discussing cow’s urine in all the texts mentioned, here is the following table:

Pittakara, Vata Anulomana

As we have discussed the properties of cow urine along with its effect on dosha. There are three things which are constant in different opinions of the acharyas. These Three things are  as follows:

  1. It is kapha hara which means it is or cow’s urine is a potent kapha pacification agent.
  2. It is vata hara, hence proven vata pacification properties.
  3. And pitta kara which means it increases the fire element in the body.

So, if it’s a kapha pacifier then it means it is effective in cancerous growth. In ayurveda we simply co-relate any over growth either cancerous or non cancerous as a result of kapha aggravation in the body and our choice of formulations include herbs which help in kapha balancing and pacifying it.

Same is With Cow’s Urine or Gomutra!!

Secondly, it’s a pitta kara which indicates it increases the fire element in the body. Kapha is something, if you look into kapha dosha properties then it bears cold and stable properties. so , heat generated by cow’s urine can help in reducing the impact of a tumor or cancerous growth and thus can help in eliminating it from its roots.

Importance of Cow’s Urine in Ayurveda

As from ages cow’s urine has been used in Ayurveda. Even many Ayurvedic formulations have cow’s urine as a part of it. The urine of a pregnant cow is preferably used as the hormones and minerals in it have special significance. Many of the herbal or herbo mineral medications have cow’s urine as its ingredient and the medication gives fantastic results and cures diseases from roots. The treatment using cow’s urine is called as panchagavya chikitsa

Purification of Cow’s Urine

Obviously many of the readers will have the thought of whether it is safe or not. But honestly it’s perfectly safe as the cow’s urine is purified before using it for any purpose. There are two processes of purification:

  1. Distillation
  2. Boiling

Distillation: The process of distillation means that the urine is boiled and its vapours are collected.

Boiling: The process of boiling includes boiling the cow’s urine in a glass vessel and then adding jaggery to it in ratio 5:1.

  • Using these two ways, cow’s urine is purified and is used in many Ayurvedic formulations. Thus the impurities and ammonia especially are removed using these two methods.
  • There are many articles, people and groups who claim that cow’s urine is really effective and does miracles. Even in this article we have discussed many aspects by different acharyas indicating the same. It is kapha shamak, vata shamak and pitta vardhak.
  • The matter is of belief whether you believe it or not. Many gaushala owners have created ways to create types of gomutra like the cold and hot one. The cold one is prepared by exposing the gau mutra in the moon light for specific days duration and then it is used in conditions especially related to over growths like cancer.
  • It is no surprise why we in India have a tradition of respecting and worshipping cows. But it is due to some reason and the reason is that it is really effective and has an impact on the human body. We are living in a world of believers and non believers. If you believe then it means you do; if you don’t then you need reasons to believe. Like people in Hyderabad, who visit a very old gaushala from where surprisingly instead of collecting milk they collect cow’s urine or gumutra. Sometimes even in big jars, it can be given to their friends and relatives due to its purification properties inside out.
  • Ayurvedic herbs are not only taking over face washes and hair products but also over modern medication because it does make a difference when you believe in it.

Conclusion

This article can be concluded with a query or with a tough belief. It’s the readers who will decide whether they are believers now or not. In this world we can be the believers or or can be the opposite of it as mentioned earlier. But believe it or not Ayurveda and ayurvedic ways can help you in many things like most importantly keeping you and your family healthy. So believe in this holistic science or search for the reason to believe in it as it can make marvelous changes in your life.
